Nehru Zoological Park Celebrates World Elephant Day With 5-Kg Cakes

Nehru Zoological Park in Hyderabad marked World Elephant Day on Wednesday with a special celebration for its four resident pachyderms: Vanaja, Asha, Sita, and Vijay. The zoo management organized a lavish spread for the animals, featuring custom-made five-kilogram cakes alongside a walk through the park grounds.

During the event, Vanaja, Asha, Sita, and Vijay were taken out of their enclosure and walked for approximately five kilometres within the zoo premises. Following the walk, the four elephants were served a jumbo feast consisting of fresh fruits, vegetables, and cooked rice.

As part of the feast, each elephant received an individually prepared cake weighing around five kilograms, made from a combination of fruits, vegetables, and cooked rice. Nehru Zoological Park Deputy Curator J. Muralidhar said that the preparation and serving of the jumbo cakes were carried out with the assistance of animal keepers, the feed store, and the zoo kitchen staff.

The celebrations also included an engaging experience for park visitors on Wednesday. Members of the public were allowed closer to the animals than usual, while staff members shared facts about the elephants and explained their importance in the ecosystem.
