Nampally Court Grants Bail to TGCSB Inspector Bathula Mahender

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Court in Nampally, Hyderabad, has granted bail to Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB) inspector Bathula Mahender. The 41-year-old police officer was arrested on May 31 for allegedly accepting bribes in a custody-related corruption case.

Mahender was granted bail on June 29, less than a month after he was remanded to judicial custody. The case against him involves allegations of extortion and bribery connected to a criminal case registered in 2025.

According to the remand case diary, Mahender allegedly demanded and accepted Rs 2 lakh from the father of a complainant who was in judicial custody. The bribe was reportedly taken in exchange for facilitating the complainant's bail and ensuring he was not harassed while in custody.

Following this initial transaction, the police inspector allegedly demanded an additional Rs 9 lakh from the complainant. This demand was reportedly made to prevent further harassment and to ensure that the complainant's family members and friends were not implicated in the criminal case.

The ACB alleged that Mahender received these bribe payments in different parts of the city. He allegedly accepted Rs 2 lakh from the complainant at the Daspalla Hotel in Jubilee Hills on April 28. Later, on May 9, he allegedly accepted another Rs 1 lakh at the Niloufer Cafe in Hitec City.

The inspector's legal team had previously filed a bail petition, which was rejected by the court on June 16. The rejection occurred because the complainant's statement under Section 183(5) of the BNSS had not yet been recorded at that time.

After the statement was successfully recorded, the defence argued before the court that the accused officer should not be kept in judicial custody indefinitely. After hearing arguments from both the defence and the prosecution, the ACB Court in Nampally approved the bail petition, leading to Mahender's release.
