Nagole Police Arrest Man for Posing as Army Officer with AI Photos to Cheat Woman

The Nagole police on Thursday arrested a 29-year-old man for allegedly posing as an Indian Army officer using AI-generated photos to swindle a woman living in Anand Nagar, Nagole, under the false promise of marriage.
The accused has been identified by the police as Mukera Govardhan, a resident of Shamirpet. According to Nagole Station House Officer (SHO) Mohammed Maqbool Jani, Govardhan initially befriended the victim, who resides in the Anand Nagar locality of Nagole, through a social media platform.
In order to win the victim's trust and establish his credentials, Govardhan sent her AI-generated photographs of himself dressed in an official military uniform. He falsely claimed to be an active-duty officer in the Indian Army. After communicating online for a few months, the two individuals began living together, and Govardhan promised the victim that he would marry her.
As their relationship progressed, Govardhan allegedly demanded and took a large sum of money from the victim. He justified the financial demand by claiming that his father was severely ill and that he required the money urgently to cover medical treatment expenses.
The fraud came to light after the victim began questioning Govardhan about their marriage plans. Police officials stated that the accused initially evaded the topic altogether. However, when the victim continued to press him for a commitment, Govardhan stopped evading and instead began threatening her. This behavior prompted the victim to approach the local authorities and lodge a formal complaint.
Following the complaint, the Nagole police initiated a background investigation into Govardhan. The probe revealed that the accused was already married. Furthermore, investigators discovered that Govardhan is a repeat offender who had been jailed last year for duping another woman from the Alwal area under a similar pretext of marriage. He was out on bail for the Alwal offense when he targeted the victim in Nagole.
The Nagole police have registered a formal case against Govardhan, and further investigations are currently underway.
