MPSC Announces 2,619 Group C Vacancies, Removes Optional Exam Papers From 2027

The Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) has officially released a recruitment notification to fill 2,619 Group C vacancies and announced a major reform to eliminate optional subject papers from its Main Examination starting in 2027. The decision to remove optional papers aligns the state's exam pattern with several other states, including Telangana, which have already implemented similar reforms.
Candidates interested in the Group C positions can begin submitting their online applications on June 27, 2026, starting at 2:00 PM. The deadline for completing the application process and fee payment is set for July 17, 2026, at 11:59 PM.
The recruitment drive aims to fill various Group C posts across multiple departments of the Maharashtra government. The vacant positions include roles such as Tax Assistant, Clerk-Typist, Industry Inspector, and other designated Group C positions.
According to the notification, the preliminary examination for these posts will be conducted as a Computer-Based Test (CBT). The exams will take place at designated examination centres across Maharashtra. Candidates who successfully qualify in the preliminary CBT stage will advance to the subsequent stages of the selection process as prescribed by the commission.
In addition to the recruitment drive, the MPSC announced a significant structural change for the Maharashtra Civil Services (Gazetted Group A and Group B) Main Examination. Beginning in 2027, candidates will no longer be required to appear for two optional subject papers.
The commission stated that this reform is intended to make the examination process more uniform and standardized. By removing the optional papers, the MPSC is aligning its system with the civil services examination patterns of other states. Currently, states such as Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar have already removed optional subjects from their respective State Services Main Examinations.
