Moosa Bowli School Raises Alarm Over Transformer Installed Near Entrance

The Government Primary School in Bazaar-e-Ghansi, Moosa Bowli, Hyderabad, has raised an urgent safety alarm after an electrical transformer was installed directly in front of the school's entrance gate. School authorities, parents, and local community members are demanding immediate intervention from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and other government departments to address the potential electrocution risk posed to hundreds of young students.
The safety hazard reportedly emerged after a local cloth store owner began renovating a building located directly in front of the government school. During the renovation process, the owner erected a pillar specifically to install an electrical transformer atop it, positioning the high-voltage equipment right at the main gate where students enter and exit daily.
Arshiya Sultana, the principal of the Government Primary School, highlighted the severe danger this poses to the student population. She explained that a few hundred children study at the institution, and having an electrical transformer situated right in front of the gate places them at constant risk of electrocution.
Following the installation, the school management and officials from the education department reached out to civic authorities. They lodged formal complaints with both the GHMC and the Charminar police. While the Charminar police visited the site on Tuesday to inspect the situation after receiving the complaint, school authorities noted that no concrete action has been taken by the administration to remove or relocate the hazard. Principal Sultana expressed frustration over the delay, stating that the negligent act continues to put the lives of young children at risk.
Parents of the students have also voiced their anxieties regarding the safety of their children. Mohd Shafiuddin, a concerned parent, questioned who would be held responsible if a student were to suffer from an electrocution incident. The school community is calling on the GHMC to coordinate an immediate joint inspection with officials from the power and education departments to resolve the issue safely.
