MMC Plans Free-Left Turns at Uppal X Roads and 171 Road Repairs

In Uppal and surrounding areas, the Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation (MMC) has identified 24 key junctions for free-left turns and 171 damaged road stretches to alleviate monsoon-related traffic congestion and improve commuter safety.
The initiative follows a week-long assessment conducted by engineering and town planning officials from the civic body. Key intersections earmarked for free-left turns include Uppal X Roads, Habsiguda X Roads, Survey of India, and Snehapuri Junction. The turns are intended to reduce delays at major traffic signals and facilitate smoother vehicular movement across the network.
MMC Commissioner T Vinay Krishna Reddy convened a inter-departmental coordination meeting on Saturday to outline the implementation strategy. Senior officials from the Police, Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB), TGSPDCL, HYDRAA, and the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) attended the session to coordinate on safety measures and municipal works.
Traffic police had initially flagged 176 damaged road and pothole locations across the region, with 171 of those spots falling under the jurisdiction of the civic body's road network. According to a press release, officials were instructed to take up patchwork and repair works in these areas on an immediate priority basis. The corporation also identified 98 separate road safety works that require implementation.
In addition to road surface repairs, the survey documented 188 waterlogging locations across the corporation limits. Officials noted that 90 of these flood-prone points still require permanent engineering solutions. The administration directed teams to prioritize desilting operations to expand the carrying capacity of stormwater drains and nalas, while aligning the work with ongoing drainage development projects.
To further reduce road bottlenecks and streamline traffic movement, authorities announced that a total of 127 encroachments located across six major road stretches will be cleared in the coming days.
