MMC Commissioner Orders Desilting After Rain Floods Keesara, Nagaram And LB Nagar

On June 19, 2026, Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation (MMC) Commissioner T Vinay Krishna Reddy toured several waterlogging-affected areas, including Keesara, Nagaram, and the LB Nagar stretch, following a heavy downpour. During his inspection, the Commissioner ordered municipal officials to immediately clear clogged drains and initiate desilting works to improve stormwater flow.
The inspection was initiated after the Commissioner noticed that commuters in multiple areas of the municipality were facing severe inconvenience due to waterlogged roads following Thursday’s heavy rainfall.
On Thursday night, Reddy visited the LB Nagar area to personally assess the situation. Upon finding heavy water stagnation on the LB Nagar stretch, he directed the concerned civic officials to clear the waterlogging and open up the stormwater drains. Disaster Response Force (DRF) teams from the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (Hydraa) followed the MMC official's instructions and worked to clear the waterlogging in the area.
On Friday, the MMC chief conducted a comprehensive review of the municipality's monsoon preparedness. His review focused on identifying waterlogging-prone locations, inspecting open drains, and assessing the overall connectivity of the stormwater drainage network. During the field visit, officials identified specific areas where stormwater drains were highly likely to overflow during heavy rainfall, and the performance of the existing drainage system was assessed.
Following the assessment, the Commissioner instructed the concerned officials to immediately clear all accumulated silt and garbage from the drains and stormwater channels. He directed them to ensure that drainage water flows freely without any hurdles whenever a heavy downpour is reported during this monsoon.
Reddy also emphasized the importance of taking preventive measures in advance to ensure that the general public does not face further inconvenience, adding that municipal officials remain fully geared up to handle monsoon emergencies effectively.
