Minister orders double bedroom housing for families displaced by Musi project

On Monday, Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy held a comprehensive review meeting at his chamber in the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Secretariat in Hyderabad to discuss land acquisition, rehabilitation, and other crucial matters for the Musi Rejuvenation Project. The meeting with senior government officials aimed to streamline the execution of the project, which is designed to clean the Musi River, control seasonal flooding, and transform the riverfront.
During the meeting, Minister Srinivas Reddy highlighted that the Musi Rejuvenation Project, a key initiative of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, is a historic step that will shape the future development of Telangana and elevate Hyderabad into a world-class city. He noted that the project will address decades of pollution in the Musi River and mitigate the hardships faced by residents in flood-prone areas during the monsoon season.
Addressing concerns regarding displacement, the Minister emphasized that the government is proceeding with a humanitarian approach. He directed officials to prioritize the perspective of the local people during the land acquisition process. Srinivas Reddy ordered the immediate formulation and implementation of an action plan to allocate double-bedroom houses to families who will lose their homes due to the project.
The Minister clarified that the government will not compromise on providing legal compensation and necessary rehabilitation to those losing their lands. He reiterated that the Musi project is not directed against anyone, and the government is committed to ensuring that development programs do not adversely affect the lives of the poor.
The rejuvenation initiative plans to turn the Musi riverfront areas into vibrant living hubs. Planned developments include flood control measures, water purification, increased greenery, and the establishment of new roads, parks, walkways, and recreational centers to boost tourism and economic growth.
