MIM MLC Mirza Rehmat Baig Files Cybercrime Complaint Over Deepfake Threat Calls

The Hyderabad Cybercrime police have registered a case after All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) MLC Mirza Rehmat Baig lodged a complaint alleging extortion and threat calls from unidentified persons.
According to the complaint, Baig had been receiving repeated phone calls from unknown individuals over the past few days. The callers allegedly demanded money and threatened to circulate morphed photographs and deepfake videos if he did not fulfill their financial demands.
The suspects reportedly warned the legislator that releasing the fabricated material would cause serious embarrassment to his family and create political complications for his career.
Despite repeated calls and sustained pressure from the extortionists, Baig refused to comply with the monetary demands. He subsequently approached the Hyderabad Cybercrime police station to report the harassment and extortion attempt.
Based on his complaint, the Cybercrime police registered a case on Thursday. Investigators have launched an inquiry to trace the phone numbers, identify the callers behind the extortion threats, and ascertain their motives.
