Medak Man Arrested After Pregnant Wife Dies By Suicide Over DNA Test Demand

A 23-year-old pregnant woman died by suicide in Gadipeddapur village of Alladurg mandal in Medak district after facing physical and mental harassment from her husband, who demanded a DNA test for her unborn child. Following the incident, local police arrested the husband and his mother on Saturday.
The victim, identified as G Sushmita, was five months pregnant at the time of her death. She was found hanging at her residence on the evening of June 25, leading to an investigation by local authorities.
Following a complaint, the police arrested Sushmita's husband, G Abhilash, and her mother-in-law, Laxmi. Alladurg Sub-Inspector D Shankar confirmed the arrests, stating that the two accused were produced before the magistrate and have been sent to judicial remand.
Sushmita was a native of Mothkupally village in the neighboring Vikarabad district. She had been married to Abhilash, who works as a bangle seller in Gadipeddapur, for approximately 18 months before the incident occurred.
In a formal complaint lodged with the police, the victim's mother, G Janabai, alleged that her daughter had been subjected to sustained physical and mental harassment by her husband and mother-in-law. Janabai stated that the mental distress for Sushmita intensified heavily after Abhilash began demanding a DNA test to prove the paternity of the unborn child.
According to Janabai, the dispute reached a peak on June 23, when she and her husband visited Sushmita’s home in Gadipeddapur. The purpose of the visit was to discuss the arrangements for the upcoming baby shower ceremony for the five-month pregnant woman.
During this visit, Abhilash reportedly started a heated argument regarding the ceremony and openly demanded a DNA test for the unborn child. While elders from the local community intervened to defuse the immediate situation, allowing Sushmita's parents to return home, the harassment allegedly continued until Sushmita took her own life on the evening of June 25.
