MCR TIMS at Sanathnagar in Hyderabad Set to Begin In-Patient Services

The newly inaugurated Marri Channa Reddy Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (MCR TIMS) at Sanathnagar in Hyderabad is set to launch its in-patient services within the next two days. The 1,082-bed facility will initially admit non-emergency cases and progressively expand its operations, according to hospital director A. Narendra Kumar.

The institute is currently building up its staff and operational systems for full-scale healthcare delivery. While the Telangana government has sanctioned 2,360 regular posts for MCR TIMS, formal recruitment for these positions is yet to begin. Because the institute operates autonomously, appointments will be handled through a dedicated recruitment mechanism similar to the process followed at Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS).

To prevent delays in launching clinical services, the state government has redeployed nearly 1,200 vacant posts from various government medical colleges to MCR TIMS and directed the hospital administration to fill them.

Additional temporary staffing arrangements are also being implemented. Contract recruitment is actively underway through the District Selection Committee chaired by the Hyderabad Collector. This process covers 144 medical officers along with more than 80 laboratory and allied technicians. Furthermore, posts sanctioned for the expansion of NIMS that are not immediately required there are being utilized to supply personnel to MCR TIMS until its regular recruitment concludes.

The hospital infrastructure includes advanced logistics features such as a pneumatic tube system designed to transport materials across departments without manual carriage. The network includes around 34 stations linked by conduits and diverters, moving capsules at speeds of 20 to 33 feet per second.

This automated system allows blood samples, routine laboratory specimens, and medications to reach their destinations across the hospital in roughly one minute. Each capsule has a weight capacity limit of 5 kilograms, requiring larger or heavier consignments to be transported manually by hospital personnel.
