MAUD Sanctions Rs 77.31 Crore To Upgrade 404 Traffic Signals Across GHMC Limits

The Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MAUD) Department has officially accorded an administrative sanction of Rs 77.31 crore for the operation, maintenance, and upgradation of traffic signals across the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits.

The administrative sanction was approved on Thursday through a Government Order (GO) issued by the MAUD Department. This funding marks the commencement of a comprehensive three-year project designed to improve the city's urban transit infrastructure and streamline traffic management.

According to the issued Government Order, the decision to sanction the Rs 77.31 crore budget was made in response to a formal proposal previously submitted by the GHMC Commissioner. The allocated funds are designated to cover the continuous operation and maintenance of the existing 404 traffic signals currently situated throughout the GHMC limits.

In addition to maintaining the current network, the three-year project also includes the Supply, Installation, Testing, and Commissioning (SITC) of brand-new traffic signals across the municipal limits. To begin the physical execution of these infrastructure upgrades, the GHMC will soon invite public tenders from qualified bidders through the state's e-procurement platform.

A key objective of this administrative sanction is to guarantee the round-the-clock availability and smooth day-to-day functioning of all 404 existing traffic signals.

Furthermore, the project aims to secure and maintain robust connectivity between the localized traffic signals and the Central Command and Control Centre. The integration will also extend directly to the dedicated control rooms functioning under the three police commissionerates in the metropolitan area, ensuring synchronized traffic monitoring and quicker response times to on-road situations.
