On Tuesday, July 14, 2026, Union Minister for Labour and Employment Mansukh Mandaviya officially inaugurated the newly constructed Outpatient Department (OPD) block at the Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) Medical College and Hospital in Sanathnagar, Hyderabad. The newly built healthcare facility, which was completed at a total cost of ₹211.13 crore, is expected to substantially strengthen healthcare services for more than 12.3 lakh insured persons and their beneficiaries across the state of Telangana.
The new OPD block has been constructed over a massive area, featuring a total constructed space of 43,611.04 square metres. This expansive medical facility is designed to provide comprehensive outpatient services to a total of 12,30,183 insured persons and beneficiaries. These individuals primarily hail from five major districts in the region, namely Hyderabad, Medchal Malkajgiri, Sangareddy, Rangareddy, and Mahabubnagar districts. As a premier ESIC medical college and hospital, the Sanathnagar facility will also cater to the healthcare needs of insured persons from across the entire state of Telangana.
Speaking at the inauguration event, Minister Mandaviya focused on the significant national expansion of social security coverage. The Minister highlighted that the number of ESIC beneficiaries across India has experienced a major increase over the last ten years, growing from around 7.5 crore a decade ago to more than 15 crore at the present time.
Furthermore, Mandaviya cited recent estimates from the International Labour Organisation to illustrate the scale of India's social security growth. He pointed out that the country's overall social security coverage has risen dramatically from just 19 percent in the year 2014 to more than 64 percent currently. This expanded coverage now encompasses approximately 94 crore people nationwide.
