Manikonda Residents Hold Walkathon Demanding Widening of 40-Foot Road

Over 200 residents from various colonies across Manikonda held a walkathon on Saturday, demanding the immediate widening of an existing 40-foot road to between 100 and 150 feet to improve public safety and ease severe traffic congestion in the area.
The demonstration, which took place within the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation limits, saw participants marching from Manikonda X Road, locally known as Marri Chettu, to Aditya Athena in U Colony. Holding placards and chanting slogans, the marchers urged civic authorities to undertake the road-widening project on a war footing.
Residents highlighted that the narrow 40-foot stretch regularly causes major traffic bottlenecks and hinders access for emergency services, including ambulances and fire engines. They pointed out that expanding the corridor is essential to ensure unobstructed movement for daily commuters and local residents.
The walkathon was organized under the banner of the Manikonda Praja Aikya Vedika. Representatives of the forum called upon the municipal corporation and state authorities to initiate necessary road development measures without further delay.
According to protesting residents, the corridor is designated as a 100-foot-wide road under the master plan, yet it was developed to a width of only 40 feet. They stated that the road widening work has remained pending for the past five years and demanded that the Congress government take prompt action to resolve the issue.
The participants cautioned that they would intensify their agitation and stage further protests if authorities fail to address their demands.
