Manikonda Residents Hold Walkathon Demanding Road Widening to 150 Feet

Over 200 residents from several colonies in Manikonda, situated within the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) limits in Hyderabad, staged a walkathon on Saturday to demand the immediate widening of an existing 40-foot road.

Participants marched along the corridor connecting Manikonda X Road (Marrichettu) and U Colony, holding placards and raising slogans. The protest began at Manikonda 'Marri Chettu' and concluded near Aditya Athena in U Colony, highlighting long-standing traffic bottlenecks affecting local commuters.

Organised by the Manikonda Praja Aikya Vedika, the walkathon called on civic authorities to widen the road to between 100 and 150 feet on a war footing. Demonstrators stated that the current road dimensions pose severe risks to public safety, create persistent traffic congestion, and obstruct the movement of emergency services such as ambulances and fire engines.

Protesters noted that while the master plan designates the corridor as a 100-foot road, it was laid as only a 40-foot stretch. Residents stated that the road widening initiative has remained stalled for the past five years without meaningful intervention from civic authorities.

Demanding prompt action from the Congress government and the CMC administration, the Manikonda Praja Aikya Vedika and local residents warned that they would intensify their agitation if steps are not taken immediately to address the infrastructure shortfall.
