Man Posing as Rapido Driver Near Charminar Sentenced to Two Days in Jail

A city court sentenced a 27-year-old man to two days' simple imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹250 after he allegedly posed as a Rapido driver and approached a woman near Charminar in Hyderabad.

The convict, identified as Mirza Ahmed Baig alias Irfan, a resident of Kishan Bagh, was sentenced by the I Special Judicial Magistrate, Hyderabad, on Friday, August 13, 2026.

The incident took place when content creator Siddeshwari Sugandh was near Charminar around 9 p.m. Baig approached her and offered to drop her at her destination, claiming to be an operating Rapido driver even though no ride had been booked through the platform.

Siddeshwari became suspicious after noticing that the scooter he was riding did not display a registration number. When she asked him to present his Rapido driver identification, Baig was unable to produce any credentials. Instead, he allegedly attempted to download the Rapido mobile application onto his phone in front of her.

Following the encounter, Siddeshwari shared a video documenting the incident on Instagram, expressing concern over the manner in which the man approached a woman late at night while falsely using the name of a ride-hailing company to gain trust.

A case was subsequently registered against Baig at the Charminar Police Station under Sections 70(C) and 21(B) of the City Police Act, Section 292 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and Section 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act.

After reviewing the case, the magistrate court pronounced the judgment, ordering Baig to undergo two days of simple imprisonment in addition to paying the ₹250 penalty.
