Man and woman hospitalised after consuming poison on Sabari Express near Secunderabad

A 34-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman allegedly attempted suicide by consuming a poisonous substance aboard the Sabari Express on Tuesday, shortly before the train reached the Secunderabad railway station.

The two individuals, identified as Sriram Sirish Kumar and Gulivendula Neelaveni, both hailing from the Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh, collapsed unconscious inside a general coach of the train. Following the incident, railway officials immediately shifted the unconscious duo to Gandhi Hospital, where they are currently undergoing medical treatment.

According to the railway police, Sirish Kumar’s wife, Sulochana, provided investigators with details regarding the events leading up to the incident. Police learnt during their inquiry that Sirish Kumar is married to Sulochana, and the couple has two sons together.

Investigators stated that Sirish Kumar and Neelaveni had been in a relationship for the past two months. Approximately one month ago, the pair left their native village and travelled to Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu.

After tracing their location, Sulochana travelled to Coimbatore to find them. She counselled the duo and successfully persuaded them to return to Hyderabad together. The group then boarded the Sabari Express to make their way back.

However, as the train was nearing its destination at Secunderabad, Sirish Kumar and Neelaveni allegedly consumed the poisonous substance in the general coach and collapsed.

The railway police have registered a case regarding the incident and have launched an official investigation to look further into the matter.
