Malkajgiri police arrest two men for Rs 74.4 lakh cybercrime frauds

The Malkajgiri police in Hyderabad have arrested two individuals in connection with two separate cybercrime cases that defrauded victims of a total of Rs 74.4 lakh. The police action, reported on 27 June 2026, resolved two distinct fraudulent schemes: a fake job offer scam and a high-value extortion scam involving a fake Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officer. Both of the accused suspects have been produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody.
In the first cybercrime case, the police arrested Murra Harinath Reddy, also known as Hari, who is a resident of the Alwal area in Hyderabad. Reddy allegedly cheated a man of Rs 3.15 lakh by promising him a job opportunity. According to the investigators, Reddy deceived the victim on the pretext of offering him employment as a business specialist. Following the incident, the victim lodged a formal complaint with the authorities. Based on this complaint, the Malkajgiri police registered a case and subsequently arrested Reddy.
In the second, separate case, the police arrested Chikati Sandeep, a resident of the NTR district in Andhra Pradesh. Sandeep is accused of impersonating a CBI officer to extort a massive sum of money from another victim. Sandeep allegedly targeted the victim by accusing them of being involved in money laundering activities. Through this impersonation and intimidation, Sandeep successfully extorted Rs 71.25 lakh from the victim.
Following their arrests by the Malkajgiri police, both suspects were produced before the local court. The court has remanded both Murra Harinath Reddy and Chikati Sandeep to judicial custody. The total amount of fraud unearthed across both of these separate cybercrime scams stands at Rs 74.4 lakh.
