Madhu Park Ridge Residents Threaten NGT Action Over Musi Riverfront Project

A delegation of residents from the Madhu Park Ridge Apartments in Bandlaguda Jagir, Hyderabad, met with the Chairman of the State Environment Impact Assessment Authority (SEIAA) Telangana on Thursday to demand the reconciliation of discrepancies in the environmental reports for the Musi Riverfront Development Project. The residents warned that they will appeal to the National Green Tribunal (NGT) if environmental clearance is granted without addressing these issues.

The delegation, representing the Madhu Park Ridge (MPR) Apartments community, held the meeting in the city to formally register their objections. Their primary demand centers on the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report and the Environmental Management Plan (EMP) report prepared for the Musi Riverfront Development Project. The residents asserted that both of these crucial environmental reports contain significant discrepancies that must be reconciled by the authorities.

The potential impact of the infrastructure initiative on the Bandlaguda Jagir neighborhood is substantial. The delegation revealed that approximately 400 flats within the Madhu Park Ridge apartment complex could be affected. This threat is linked to the Gandhi Sarovar Project, which is an initiative connected to the larger Musi Riverfront Development Project.

Given the scale of the potential impact on their homes, the residents are prepared to pursue legal avenues. They told the SEIAA Telangana Chairman that they would take their case to the NGT if the authority moves forward with granting environmental clearance before resolving the discrepancies in the EIA and EMP reports.

The meeting highlights growing local concerns over the environmental and residential impacts of the Musi Riverfront Development Project and its associated works, such as the Gandhi Sarovar Project, on established residential areas in Hyderabad.
