LVPEI and BostonSight Launch Trial on Mental Health Impact of Specialty Lenses

The LV Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI) in Hyderabad and BostonSight announced on Monday, August 10, 2026, the launch of a prospective clinical trial to evaluate the impact of PROSE and scleral lenses on patient mental health.

The multi-site study will focus on lens users referred to LVPEI. The primary objective of the clinical trial is to identify a direct correlation between quantifiable mental health outcomes and specialty lens treatment for patients undergoing care.

In addition to measuring health outcomes, the collaboration aims to raise awareness about the mental health challenges associated with ocular surface disease. The research team hopes the findings will promote earlier interventions using PROSE and other specialty lenses, potentially improving or avoiding associated mental health conditions.

The collaboration marks a new direction in BostonSight’s research into lens efficacy. Previous studies focused on the physical impact of the lenses on the cornea and ocular surface, whereas the new trial expands the research scope to patient quality of life and mental well-being.

Dr Daniel Brocks, Chief Medical Officer at BostonSight, added that objectively measuring these effects could further support earlier interventions in a patient’s eye care journey.
