LPG e-KYC Deadline Extended to August 31 for Consumers Across Telangana

Oil marketing companies have extended the deadline to complete e-KYC authentication for domestic liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) connections to August 31, offering relief to households in Hyderabad and across Telangana who missed the previous August 23 cutoff.

The three public sector oil marketing companies—Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL)—have been urging consumers to complete Aadhaar biometric authentication to ensure they continue receiving LPG cylinder refills at domestic rates.

According to an oil industry official, consumers who have not yet completed the verification process will receive text messages notifying them of the new August 31 deadline.

Official statistics indicate that Telangana accounts for 1.26 crore of the country's 32.97 crore active domestic LPG consumers. About 82 percent of consumers in the state have already completed the e-KYC process, and the extension is expected to help cover the remaining population.

In the days leading up to the initial deadline, cooking gas distributorships across Hyderabad and other districts experienced heavy footfall and long queues. Over recent days, between 20,000 and 30,000 consumers completed the verification process daily across the state.

In addition to visiting local gas distribution agencies, consumers whose Aadhaar numbers are already linked to their gas connections have also been using mobile applications provided by the respective oil companies to complete the verification digitally from home.

Telangana LPG Distributors Association president Jagan Mohan Reddy confirmed that officials from the oil marketing companies had orally communicated the deadline extension to distributors.

Industry officials assured that LPG cylinder supplies will continue without interruption even after the August 31 deadline. However, the pricing structure for refills supplied to consumers who remain non-compliant with e-KYC norms will depend on forthcoming directives from the Union Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, as no formal circular has been issued on the pricing policy yet.
