Laser Beam From Shamshabad Function Hall Disrupts Frankfurt Flight Landing at RGIA

A pilot landing a flight from Frankfurt at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) in Shamshabad, Hyderabad, had their vision obstructed at night when a laser beam flashed from the ground. The laser light struck the aircraft during a critical landing phase, prompting the pilot to immediately alert Air Traffic Control (ATC) officials of the safety hazard.
Although the laser beam caused a temporary obstruction to the pilot's vision, the flight landed safely at the airport a few minutes later. Following the pilot's report, airport authorities and local police launched an investigation to identify the source of the laser beam.
According to officials, celebratory laser lights used during marriage ceremonies at function halls in Shamshabad and its surrounding neighborhoods continue to pose a serious safety hazard to incoming flights. The high-intensity beams from these venues often project directly into the flight paths of landing aircraft.
This is the second such incident recorded at the airport. A previous event occurred in February 2026, when a laser beam light pointed directly at the runway, triggering a major safety scare among RGIA and ATC officials.
In the February 2026 incident, investigators traced the laser pointers to a wedding reception party hosted within the Shamshabad rural police station limits. This specific area is located near the rear of the airport runway, making it highly vulnerable to light interference.
Following that previous event, ATC personnel alerted the RGIA police. The message was subsequently forwarded to both the Shamshabad rural and Shamshabad town police stations to take action against the organizers. The latest incident has renewed concerns over the unregulated use of laser lights near the airport zone, prompting further coordination between airport security and local law enforcement.
