Konda Surekha Targets Revanth Reddy Over Congress Double Standards

Hyderabad: Telangana Minister Konda Surekha launched a direct attack on Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy after meeting the All India Congress Committee (AICC) leadership in New Delhi on Wednesday, openly questioning his conduct and alleging discriminatory treatment within the party.

Speaking to reporters following a meeting with AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge, Surekha accused the state Congress leadership of enforcing different standards for different leaders. She alleged that she was being singled out because she is a woman belonging to the backward classes (BC) community.

Surekha insisted that any disciplinary action against her should only follow after action is initiated against Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. She questioned how the Chief Minister could publicly declare that he would stay in office for 10 years without facing scrutiny, asking whether such statements did not constitute a breach of party discipline.

The minister also demanded show-cause notices against Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs) and Members of Legislative Council (MLCs) who have publicly spoken out against her. She stated that she has been discharging her duties and responsibilities as a cabinet minister diligently.

Addressing the controversy surrounding statements made by her daughter, Surekha maintained that her daughter is an independent, married individual whose life and actions cannot be controlled by her or her husband. She questioned why she was being held responsible for her daughter's comments, adding that no one had asked for her resignation and that she was awaiting the high command's decision.

Raising the issue of social justice, Surekha asked whether the Congress leadership applies one standard for backward classes and another for other social groups. She alleged that several senior ministers and leaders in the state face serious allegations, specifically questioning the lack of action regarding allegations involving the families of Ministers Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy and Bhatti Vikramarka.

Surekha said that she had submitted a formal written account of her grievances to Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, and AICC general secretary KC Venugopal. She stated that she had directly met Kharge and Venugopal to request that they review all of these issues.

The matter reached the Congress central leadership after Revanth Reddy submitted a report on the developments. Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president B Mahesh Kumar Goud stated that he and the Chief Minister had provided the party leadership with the relevant information, adding that the final decision rests entirely with the high command.
