Konda Surekha and G Chinna Reddy Face Possible Removal Over Party Discipline

Telangana Endowments Minister Konda Surekha and Telangana State Planning Board Vice-Chairman G. Chinna Reddy are likely to face removal from their respective posts following an internal disciplinary enquiry by the Congress party.

The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) disciplinary committee, headed by MP Mallu Ravi and senior leader Shyam Mohan, completed its investigation and submitted a report to TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud. According to party sources, both leaders may be asked to resign and could be sacked if they refuse to step down.

Mr. Goud forwarded the findings to AICC in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan, who is expected to place the report before the Congress high command. The AICC is expected to consult Mr. Goud and Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy before arriving at a final decision.

The committee examined written responses from both leaders to showcause notices issued earlier, along with other available material. Neither leader was summoned personally during the enquiry.

The disciplinary panel took a serious view of Ms. Surekha's conduct, noting multiple controversies that damaged the party's image and finding little indication of her willingness to correct her actions. The report referenced a controversy involving her former Officer on Special Duty (OSD), who faces criminal charges, as well as remarks concerning actor Nagarjuna's family and comments against BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao. The panel viewed allegations made by her daughter against Chief Minister Revanth Reddy as particularly serious, observing that Ms. Surekha did not express regret and submitted a defiant response.

Regarding Mr. Chinna Reddy, the committee took exception to his allegations against Wanaparthy MLA Tudi Megha Reddy, whom he accused of securing the Congress ticket by paying money. The panel concluded that the accusations embarrassed the party and questioned the authority of the AICC, which handles candidate selection.

While disciplinary action concerning Mr. Chinna Reddy remains politically sensitive due to his standing with the Chief Minister, the final decision rests with the Congress high command following consultations with the State leadership.
