Kompally Resident Duped of Rs 10 Lakh by Fake ACB Officials

A government Executive Engineer residing in Kompally was duped of Rs 10 lakh by cyber fraudsters posing as Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials, who threatened him with surprise raids over alleged corruption charges.
The complainant, who works with the Roads and Buildings (R&B) Department, received a WhatsApp call from an unknown number in July. The caller introduced himself as an official from the ACB and claimed that a formal complaint had been registered against the engineer.
The fraudster told the official that the ACB was actively preparing to conduct surprise raids against him in connection with corruption allegations. He allegedly threatened that the enforcement action would proceed unless money was paid to halt the proceedings.
Fearing the potential consequences, the engineer complied with the caller's demands and transferred a total sum of Rs 10 lakh in multiple instalments.
The matter came to light after the fraudster continued to demand more money from the engineer. Growing suspicious of the repeated extortion attempts, the official realised he was being targeted by scammers and approached the Cyberabad Cybercrime Police to lodge a formal complaint.
The Cyberabad Cybercrime Police have registered a case based on the engineer's complaint and taken up the matter for further investigation.
