Kishan Reddy Urges GHMC and HMWSSB to Resolve Sri Venkateswara Colony Civic Issues

Union Coal Minister G Kishan Reddy on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, urged civic authorities to address a series of long-standing civic issues in Sri Venkateswara Colony, Hyderabad. The Minister directed the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) to take immediate steps to resolve problems such as waterlogging, sewage seepage, and poor drainage in the locality.

The Minister's intervention followed two formal representations submitted by Dr. Srikanth, the secretary of the Sri Venkateswara Colony Welfare Associations. Upon receiving the complaints, Minister Reddy forwarded the documents directly to GHMC Commissioner RV Karnan and HMWSSB Managing Director K Ashok Reddy on Wednesday, calling for swift administrative action to relieve the residents.

According to the representations, the residents of Sri Venkateswara Colony are facing severe distress due to flawed infrastructure planning. A primary concern raised by the welfare association involves the laying of cement concrete (CC) roads and the removal of existing footpaths in the neighborhood.

The welfare association pointed out that the current road level has been raised significantly higher than the level of the adjoining residential colonies. This elevation mismatch has created a basin effect, resulting in frequent water stagnation and severe waterlogging whenever it rains.

Furthermore, the representations detailed the ongoing struggle with continuous waterlogging and sewage seepage. Residents reported that stagnant water has begun seeping into nearby residential premises, causing persistent inconvenience and structural damage to the affected households in the colony.

To mitigate these issues, the welfare association has urged the municipal and water boards to construct suitable rainwater harvesting borewells. They also requested the implementation of other necessary drainage measures to facilitate the proper percolation and flow of accumulated rainwater throughout the area.
