Kishan Reddy Slams Telangana Government Over Poor Monsoon Preparedness In Hyderabad

Union minister and Secunderabad MP Kishan Reddy on Sunday criticized the Telangana government for its poor monsoon preparedness, alleging that administrative neglect has led to flooded roads in Hyderabad even during light showers. Speaking after visiting several colonies in the Nampally Assembly constituency, Reddy highlighted the lack of essential civic maintenance across the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits.

According to Reddy, key pre-monsoon tasks such as the desilting of stormwater drains and pipelines, tree plantation, and other crucial maintenance works had not been adequately taken up by the authorities. He stated that even a brief spell of rain is currently turning roads into lakes, causing severe hardship to commuters and local residents.

The BJP leader targeted both the current Congress administration and the previous BRS government for their failure to address these issues. He alleged that while both governments had previously promised to transform Hyderabad into global cities like London and Singapore, neither administration had taken any meaningful steps to improve the city's basic infrastructure.

Expressing concern over Hyderabad's changing climate, Reddy pointed out that the city is increasingly turning into a "concrete jungle" due to rapid urbanization and the growth of apartment complexes. He noted that this rapid development is leading to rising temperatures and overall environmental degradation in the region.

The Union minister also highlighted that Hyderabad recorded a 40-50 percent below-normal rainfall deficit in June this year. To combat this issue, he urged citizens and local authorities to actively promote rainwater harvesting. He suggested creating recharge pits in homes, parks, and public spaces to ensure rainwater seeps into the ground instead of flowing into the Musi river and eventually into the sea.

Earlier during his visit to the area, Reddy also inaugurated open gyms in several parks within the Nampally Assembly constituency in a bid to encourage physical fitness among the residents.
