Kiran Netha Pasunuri arrested in US for allegedly assaulting toddler

A 44-year-old Telugu man, Kiran Netha Pasunuri, has been arrested in the United States after he allegedly assaulted his two-year-old child, leaving the toddler with life-threatening injuries. The arrest was made on June 25 by the Garner police department in North Carolina, following a detailed investigation into the severe injuries sustained by the child.
The incident came to light after the two-year-old toddler was taken to the hospital for the treatment of severe injuries. Following this, investigators worked in coordination with medical professionals and the Wake county district attorney's office to determine the cause of the child's injuries.
According to the official court documents, the toddler had suffered a massive subdural haematoma, which refers to bleeding on the brain. In addition to this, the child was found to have haemorrhaging in the retinas and sustained compression fractures to several vertebrae in the back.
The physical trauma was so severe that doctors at the WakeMed Hospital had to perform immediate, life-saving surgery. This surgical procedure included removing a portion of the young child's skull in order to relieve the pressure building up on the brain.
In addition to the physical assault allegations, investigators have accused Pasunuri of failing to seek timely medical care for his injured child. Currently, the court records do not state how the injuries were allegedly caused, nor do they specify how much time elapsed before the toddler was finally taken to the hospital for medical treatment.
Following the investigation, Pasunuri was charged with two counts of felony intentional child abuse inflicting serious bodily injury. He also faces two counts of felony negligent child abuse inflicting serious bodily injury.
According to media reports, Pasunuri appeared before the court following his arrest. The court ordered him to remain in custody on a secured bail of $2,00,000, which is equivalent to more than Rs 1.9 crore. If he secures bail and is released, he will not be permitted to have any contact with the child.
Pasunuri's next court appearance has been scheduled for July 20. At present, authorities have not released any further details regarding the child's current medical condition, and the investigation into the case is still continuing.
