Khammam's Bonakal records 79.3 mm rain as moderate showers lash Telangana

Moderate to heavy rainfall lashed several parts of Telangana on Sunday, with Bonakal in Khammam district recording the state's highest precipitation at 79.3 mm. In Hyderabad, light showers were recorded, with the locality of Shaikpet registering the city's highest rainfall of 14.3 mm by 8 pm.

According to official weather data from the Telangana Development Planning Society (TGDPS), the wet weather was spread across multiple districts. Following Bonakal, Station Ghanpur in Jangaon district recorded 74.8 mm of rainfall, while Eturnagaram in Mulugu district received 73 mm of rain.

Several locations in Nizamabad district also experienced heavy showers on Sunday. Yedapalle recorded 72.3 mm of rain, Sirikonda received 70.5 mm, and Mosra recorded 70 mm. Other areas in the district, including Thumpally and Dharpally, recorded 69.3 mm and 68.5 mm of rainfall respectively. Meanwhile, Zaffergadh in Jangaon district recorded 70.3 mm, and Mallial in Jagtial district received 69.3 mm of rainfall.

In Hyderabad, the precipitation was comparatively light and remained mostly limited to the north-eastern parts of the city. Behind Shaikpet's 14.3 mm, the Golconda area recorded 11.5 mm of rainfall. Other city localities also registered minor rainfall, including Srinagar Colony with 7.8 mm, RC Puram with 7.5 mm, and BHEL with 6.8 mm.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that light to moderate rainfall will continue across Telangana over the next four days.

For Monday, the IMD has issued a forecast predicting heavy rainfall in isolated locations within the Adilabad, Kumuram Bheem Asifabad, Nirmal, Mulugu, and Bhadradri Kothagudem districts. Additionally, weather officials warned that thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 30 to 40 km/h are very likely to occur across all districts of Telangana during this period.
