Khammam Police Arrest Sub Inspector And Constable Among 12 In Dacoity Case

On Thursday, the Khammam police arrested 12 individuals, including a Reserve Sub-Inspector (RSI) and a constable from the TGSP 15th Battalion in Gangaram, in connection with a dacoity and cheating case in Khammam district. The arrests were made following a complaint from a victim who was defrauded through a black-money-to-white-money conversion scam.
Kalluru Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Vasundhara Yadav identified the arrested police personnel as 51-year-old RSI Bera Keshava Rao and Constable Mulugari Varadhan. The prime accused, 31-year-old painter E Chanti Babu from Eluru, allegedly played a crucial role in the operation.
According to the police, the gang had committed at least two dacoity offenses in the district. The other arrested individuals were identified as M Satyanarayana, M Madhu, G Gautam Kumar, K Naveen, N Nagaraju, S Subbaraju, K Srinivas, D Ganesh, and E Janardhan Raju. Two other suspects, Ramanjaneyulu and Raju, are currently absconding.
The scam involved Chanti Babu procuring SIM cards from Raju to contact victims under different names. He falsely claimed to be a real estate businessman with Rs 2 crore blocked in his bank account due to Income Tax issues. He promised victims that if they provided him with cash, he would return four times the amount to them.
When victims arrived at designated locations with their money, an associate of Chanti Babu would meet them with dummy bundles of counterfeit currency to gain their trust.
While the associate pretended to count the genuine cash, other gang members, including genuine and pseudo police officers, would arrive in pre-arranged vehicles. They would accuse the victims of dealing in counterfeit currency or being wanted criminals. The accused would then tie up the victims, seize their genuine cash, and flee the scene.
The dacoity came to light after a victim, K Gangadhara Reddy from YSR Kadapa district, lodged a complaint with the police.
