KCR Calls for Peace and Democratic Struggle on Gandhi Jayanti in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) president and former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao on Friday emphasised that achieving social change through patient, peaceful, and democratic struggles was Mahatma Gandhi’s central ideal, urging the public to reject divisive politics and foster brotherhood.

Paying tributes to Gandhi on his birth anniversary, Chandrashekhar Rao said the Mahatma’s methods of peaceful democratic struggle had directly inspired him during the Telangana statehood movement. He noted that Gandhi’s path of Satyagraha in the pursuit of democratic rights remains deeply relevant to the younger generation.

Chandrashekhar Rao stated that Gandhi’s life offers key lessons for leaders who are fighting authoritarian governments for legitimate public aspirations. He said that leaders should adopt a broad outlook, build unity among oppressed sections, and mobilise people across different social groups through peaceful movements.

Reflecting on his journey in the statehood movement, the BRS chief said Gandhi’s ideals guided his approach despite facing significant challenges. He added that abandoning hate-filled speeches and vindictive attitudes is necessary to honour the Father of the Nation, asserting that establishing peace and brotherhood among citizens through governance is the true tribute to Gandhi.

BRS working president KT Rama Rao also paid homage, observing that Gandhi showed the world how truth, non-violence, and perseverance could serve as powerful forces for change. Rama Rao stated that these principles resonated with the spirit of the movement that achieved Telangana's formation, urging people to take inspiration from Gandhi’s commitment to peace and justice.

Joining in the tributes, BRS Legislature Party deputy leader T Harish Rao said Gandhi’s ideals of peace, non-violence, and Satyagraha continue to inspire generations and demonstrate the power of courage and compassion, expressing hope that these teachings will continue guiding society toward a better world.
