KBR Park One-Way Traffic Plan Triggers Widespread Congestion in Hyderabad

A new one-way traffic management system implemented around KBR Park in Jubilee Hills led to widespread confusion, major traffic delays, and long detours for motorists, bus commuters, and pedestrians across the area. The measure, which turned the key transit zone into a giant rotary, took effect at 6 a.m.
Traffic police introduced the one-way arrangement to manage vehicular movement amid ongoing H-CITI construction works that have restricted carriageway space around the park. More than 200 police personnel, ranging from beat constables and home guards to Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar, were deployed across the stretch alongside newly installed signboards to direct motorists.
The system caused extensive gridlock during morning peak hours. Motorists who previously made a right turn at the Jubilee Hills Checkpost were forced to take a five-kilometre detour to reach the opposite side of the road. Congestion also spilled over into nearby neighbourhoods, including Yousufguda, Srinagar Colony, and Madhura Nagar, while vehicles were brought to a standstill near the Road No. 5 Jubilee Hills Metro Station.
The disruption extended to emergency services, with ambulance movement impacted near several major private hospitals situated in the vicinity. Morning walkers arriving from the L.V. Prasad stretch were unable to drive directly to the parking area and had to divert left at the signal to search for alternative parking spots. Pedestrians also encountered significant difficulties attempting to cross the busy one-way corridor.
Traffic police officials attributed the initial disruption to teething troubles, noting that congestion worsened as drivers stopped to query routes and argue with on-duty personnel. Police stated that staff will remain deployed round-the-clock at key locations to manage flow and address commuter and pedestrian concerns.
