Kazipet Bus Stand Row Reignites Political Debate Over YSR Nagar in Hanumkonda

The long-pending demand for a permanent bus stand in Kazipet has reignited a major political debate over the future of YSR Nagar near Kazipet crossroads in Hanumkonda, with local residents raising concerns over possible relocation.

The issue has gained significant political momentum ahead of upcoming municipal elections, centering on whether the colony will be cleared for the proposed transport facility or relocated under the Indiramma housing scheme.

Residents stated that the demand for a permanent bus stand has remained unresolved for nearly three decades despite numerous meetings, official resolutions, and public protests. They pointed out that no major political party had previously opposed the establishment of huts and structures in YSR Nagar on the grounds that the land was earmarked for a bus stand.

Currently, the Medaram bus stand operates on a temporary basis from the Railway Stadium area. Local residents have suggested relocating the stadium and constructing the permanent bus stand at that site instead. They noted that developing a commercial complex around the proposed bus stand at the stadium site could enhance passenger amenities and support small traders.

Instead of facing displacement, residents are demanding land rights and the construction of Indiramma houses within their existing colony. They proposed that any surplus land in YSR Nagar could be allocated for a hospital, leaving the Railway Stadium area for the transit hub.

More than half of the huts in YSR Nagar have reportedly been vacated, raising anxieties among remaining inhabitants over whether displaced families will actually receive housing allotments under the Indiramma scheme. Allegations have also surfaced regarding the involvement of a former local public representative, as well as claims that ruling party leaders reached an understanding with individuals claiming ownership of the land.

The controversy has brought scrutiny to local MLA Naini Rajender Reddy. Residents said they submitted formal complaints and highlighted the issue through the media but have received no public response from the lawmaker. Residents have further alleged that close associates of the MLA are attempting to take control of the land with his backing, pointing to alleged financial transactions involving a private claimant.

Opposition leaders from the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Bharat Rashtra Samithi have visited YSR Nagar to express solidarity and assure residents of their support as political activity intensifies across the constituency.
