Karimnagar Student Arrested for Pushing Woman Into Well to Pay Gaming Debts

A second-year degree student was arrested for allegedly kidnapping, robbing, and attempting to murder a woman daily wage labourer by pushing her into an agricultural well on the outskirts of Nustulapur in Thimmapur mandal to pay off his online gaming debts, after luring her from the Tower Circle labour adda in Karimnagar.

The incident began on July 1, when the suspect approached the victim under the pretext of offering her work. The victim survived the murder attempt and was rescued on Thursday morning, leading to the arrest of the suspect, which was announced on Saturday.

According to Karimnagar Commissioner of Police Gaush Alam, the accused, identified as Damma Dinesh Reddy, is a native of Gollapalli and a second-year degree student. The commissioner stated that Dinesh Reddy had lost approximately Rs 4 lakh in online games and had also borrowed money from various loan apps.

On July 1, Dinesh Reddy took the woman on a motorcycle from Karimnagar to Thimmapur, eventually leading her to the outskirts of Nustulapur. There, he allegedly attacked her and robbed her of her gold and silver ornaments.

To conceal the crime, Dinesh Reddy pushed the woman into an agricultural well. When she managed to hold onto a rope to stay afloat, the accused allegedly cut the rope and fled the scene.

Because the woman knew how to swim, she managed to survive by holding onto another rope tied to an agricultural motor pipe. She remained in the well until Thursday morning, when a local farmer went to the spot and heard her cries for help. The farmer alerted the police and other farmers, who rescued her using ropes and a cot.

Following the rescue, the Karimnagar Town-III police tracked down and arrested Dinesh Reddy by analyzing technical evidence, CCTV footage, and call data. The police recovered Rs 5,000 in cash, two mobile phones, and 20 grams of silver rings from the accused. Commissioner Gaush Alam produced him before the media on Saturday.
