Jyoti Wins India's Only Gold Medal at World Boxing Cup 2 in China

On June 21, 2026, Indian boxer Jyoti clinched India's sole gold medal at the World Boxing Cup 2 in Guangdong, China, after securing a dominant victory over Uzbekistan's Farzona Fozilova. The news of the victory was reported from Hyderabad as the Indian boxing contingent concluded their international campaign at the tournament.

Jyoti competed in the 48kg category final, where she defeated Fozilova with a dominant 5-0 unanimous decision. Fozilova entered the bout as the reigning World Boxing Cup Brazil gold medalist. Jyoti's emphatic victory against a top-tier opponent capped an impressive campaign and highlighted her growing stature on the international stage.

Alongside Jyoti's gold medal, the Indian team secured three silver medals through strong final appearances. In the 51kg category, Minakshi settled for a silver medal. Minakshi, who is currently the World No. 1 in the 48kg category, competed in the higher weight class for this tournament and went down 0-5 to China’s Wu Yu in the final bout.

Prachi also secured a silver medal for India in the 57kg category. After an otherwise impressive run in the tournament, she lost 0-5 to Uzbekistan's Nigina Uktamova in her title bout.

In the men's division, Deepak added to India's silver medal tally in the 70kg category. He secured the silver medal after a 0-5 loss to Kazakhstan’s Ablaikhan Zhussupov in the final match.

Earlier in the tournament, India had already secured two bronze medals through Jugnoo in the 85kg category and Nikhil in the 55kg category.

With these joint performances, India finished the World Boxing Cup 2 tournament with an overall tally of six medals, consisting of one gold, three silver, and two bronze medals.
