Jubilee Hills Police Foil Child Marriage At Peddamma Temple, Rescue Minor Girl

On July 1, 2026, the Jubilee Hills police foiled a child marriage and rescued a 17-year-old girl at the Peddamma Temple near CBI Colony in Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad. Acting on a tip-off regarding the ceremony, police officers arrived at the temple to stop the wedding.

The marriage was being arranged between the 17-year-old minor and a 22-year-old man identified as Raju. The ceremony was allegedly being conducted in the presence of the minor girl’s mother, uncle, and aunt.

Following a swift intervention, the police successfully halted the wedding. The rescued girl was immediately handed over to Child Welfare officials, who placed her in safe custody.

The police action was initiated after a complaint was formally lodged by P Anita, an Anganwadi teacher associated with the Venkatagiri ICDS Project.

Based on the complaint, the Jubilee Hills police registered a case under the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006. The groom, Raju, along with the girl's mother, uncle, and aunt, were subsequently taken into custody by the police.
