Jubilee Hills business fined Rs 1 lakh for discharging treated wastewater onto road

The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) on Monday, June 29, 2026, announced a strict warning against Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) violations after fining a commercial establishment on Road No. 82 in Jubilee Hills Rs. 1 lakh for discharging treated wastewater onto a public road.

The violation was first discovered on Friday, June 26, 2026, when Water Board officials conducted a field inspection in the Jubilee Hills area. During the inspection, officials found that the commercial establishment was actively discharging treated water from its private STP directly onto the public road.

The discharged water accumulated on the road, creating unhygienic stagnant water conditions. HMWS&SB officials noted that this stagnant water created a major public nuisance, causing significant inconvenience to both commuters and pedestrians using Road No. 82.

Following the discovery, the Water Board served an official notice to the management of the commercial establishment. The notice directed the establishment to halt the wastewater discharge immediately and demanded an explanation for the violation within 48 hours.

To penalize the offense, the Water Board imposed a fine of Rs. 1 lakh on the establishment for causing public inconvenience. The board warned the management that they must clear the fine within three days. Failure to pay the penalty within this timeframe will lead to additional fines, the disconnection of the establishment's drinking water and sewerage connections, and further legal action.

In a press statement issued on Monday, the HMWS&SB extended this warning to all other establishments across Hyderabad. The board directed all residential, commercial, educational, and industrial establishments that operate private STPs to strictly reuse their treated wastewater in accordance with established regulations.

The Water Board emphasized that discharging treated wastewater onto public roads or other unauthorized public spaces is a serious violation that will continue to invite severe punitive action.
