Joint Action Teams Formed to Address Monsoon Issues in Hyderabads CURE Area

On Thursday, July 2, 2026, Joint Action Teams (JATs) were established and an orientation programme was conducted to address monsoon-related issues in the Core Urban Region Economy (CURE) area of Hyderabad. The CURE area comprises the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC), and Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation.

The orientation session for the newly formed Joint Action Teams was led by Cyberabad Municipal Corporation Commissioner G Srijana. According to an official press release, the meeting was organized to review administrative measures and to further strengthen active coordination among various public departments during the ongoing monsoon season.

During the session, Commissioner Srijana emphasised the critical need to strengthen the existing systems for receiving area-specific rainfall forecasts. She specifically highlighted the importance of obtaining one-hour and two-hour advance alerts from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), which would allow municipal teams to implement proactive measures before heavy downpours affect the city.

Srijana also issued directives to the attending officials regarding the execution of civic works. She instructed them to categorise all monsoon-related works into structured short-, medium-, and long-term plans. The Commissioner noted that while immediate issues must be addressed promptly, officials must prioritise permanent solutions to mitigate recurring monsoon challenges in the region.

The meeting served as a collaborative platform for multiple departments involved in urban management and emergency response. Officials from the GHMC, Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation, and Cyberabad Municipal Corporation participated in the event.

Additionally, representatives from the Police, HYDRAA, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB), the Fire Department, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and the IMD attended the programme to streamline disaster management operations.

The collaborative effort aims to ensure that municipal departments, emergency services, and weather forecasting agencies work in unison to manage monsoon challenges. The structured plans and advance IMD alerts are expected to help the Joint Action Teams execute their duties efficiently throughout the CURE region.
