Jawaharnagar Woman Dies by Suicide as Family Alleges Dowry Harassment by Husband

A 22-year-old married woman died by suicide by hanging at her residence in Shantinagar, Jawaharnagar, Hyderabad, on Saturday, 4 July 2026. The victim's family has alleged that she was driven to end her life due to persistent dowry harassment by her husband and her in-laws.

The deceased woman, identified as Rekha, lived at the Shantinagar residence with her husband, Sai Kumar. Sai Kumar is employed as an Excise Constable and is currently posted at the Nampally Excise Police Station.

Following the incident, Rekha’s family members came forward with allegations against her husband and in-laws. They accused Sai Kumar and his family of subjecting Rekha to continuous abuse and harassment regarding dowry demands. The family further claimed that the circumstances surrounding her death were being falsely projected as a simple case of suicide.

The Jawaharnagar police have launched an investigation into the matter to establish the circumstances surrounding the death. Police officials stated that the exact cause of Rekha's death will be confirmed after they receive the official autopsy reports.

The authorities are continuing their investigation, and the final findings will be determined based on both the post-mortem results and the ongoing police inquiry into the family's allegations.
