Jagtial Native Vavilala Sudarshan Goud Killed in Russian Strike in Ukraine

A 42-year-old man from Hasnabad in Jagtial district, Vavilala Sudarshan Goud, was killed in a Russian strike on the Ukrainian city of Odesa. Another man from Telangana, 35-year-old Ganesh Kalleda, sustained injuries in the attack.

Goud had travelled to Ukraine about four months ago for work. He is survived by his wife, Bhargavi, and two sons. Following the news of his death, a pall of gloom descended over his native village of Hasnabad.

Jagtial MLA Sanjay Kumar called on the bereaved family in Hasnabad, condoled Goud's death, and assured them of all possible support from the government.

The Indian Embassy in Ukraine confirmed the death of an Indian national in an attack and stated that it is extending assistance for the early repatriation of the mortal remains. The mission stated on social media that it is in touch with the bereaved family and Ukrainian authorities.

Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the casualties, stating that 12 people, including an Indian citizen, were killed in the latest wave of Russian strikes. Drones and ballistic missiles struck multiple cities across the country, damaging residential buildings and civilian infrastructure.

According to Zelenskyy, guided aerial bomb and drone strikes targeted Odesa and the surrounding region from Monday evening, leaving thousands of families without electricity. Strikes were also reported across Kyiv, Kherson, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, Chernihiv, Zhytomyr, Sumy, and Dnipro regions, injuring dozens of individuals.

In Kyiv, seven people died in a strike on a railway depot. In Boryspil, four people were killed and 13 injured after a five-storey residential building was damaged, prompting the evacuation of 50 residents. Ukrainian authorities also reported deliberate damage to export infrastructure and a border crossing with Romania.
