ISB Study Finds Rise in Digital Maturity Among NABH-Accredited Hospitals

A white paper released at the Indian School of Business in Hyderabad has found substantial improvements in digital maturity, operational efficiency, and clinical decision-making among hospitals accredited by the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers.

The study, conducted by the Max Institute of Healthcare Management at ISB, evaluated 20 hospitals across different sizes, accreditation tiers, and metro and non-metro locations across India. According to the findings, the average digital maturity score of the surveyed hospitals increased from 3.42 to 4.35 on a five-point scale.

The paper was unveiled at ISB by Ajay Seth, Chairperson of the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India. The release event was attended by Chakravarthy Kannan, Secretary General of the Quality Council of India and interim Chief Executive Officer of NABH, alongside Rizwan Koita and other senior office bearers representing NABH, QCI, and ISB.

According to the research findings, hospitals demonstrated notable progress across multiple parameters. Data privacy and documentation quality each scored 4.56 on the five-point scale, while operational efficiency reached 4.38 and interoperability stood at 4.29. The overall value of digital health systems was rated at 4.62 out of 5.

The study also highlighted specific financial and administrative impacts resulting from digital adoption. In one documented case, a hospital recorded a reduction in revenue leakage from 33 percent down to 7 percent following digital interventions.
