INTUC Chief Sanjeeva Reddy Calls for Fair Wages and Worker Social Security in Hyderabad

Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) president Dr G. Sanjeeva Reddy called for economic freedom, decent employment, fair wages, and social security for workers during a flag-hoisting event at the Azamabad Power House Industrial Area in Hyderabad.

Dr Reddy, a veteran trade union leader and former minister, hoisted the National Flag at the 95-year-old VST Workers Union office and the Telangana INTUC headquarters in the city. Addressing the gathering, he paid tributes to freedom fighters and stated that political freedom must be accompanied by social justice and the dignity of labour. He emphasised that poverty can be addressed by generating decent jobs and ensuring fair, living wages that allow workers to lead dignified lives.

During the programme, Dr Reddy extended financial assistance to the family of M. Nagabhushanam, an autorickshaw driver who died of cardiac arrest. He highlighted that trade unions must stand firmly with workers and their families in times of hardship. He also commended Auto Workers Union leaders Mallesh Goud, Narsimha Reddy, and Nagraj for their continuous support to labour families.

Dr Reddy urged trade unions to broaden their scope beyond conventional collective bargaining and wage negotiations to actively deliver social protection, humanitarian assistance, and comprehensive welfare to the workforce.

The flag-hoisting ceremony was attended by trade union leaders and members including G. Satyajeet Reddy, R.D. Chandra Shekar, Vijay Kumar Yadav, Abraham, Mallesh Goud, Narsimha Reddy, and Sujith Gandhi.
