India's Pharma Exports Rise 6.8% to $8.1 Billion in Q1 FY27

The Pharmaceuticals Export Promotion Council of India, based in Hyderabad, announced on Wednesday that India’s pharmaceutical exports rose 6.8 percent to $8.1 billion in the first quarter of financial year 2026-27. The increase from $7.58 billion recorded in the corresponding quarter of FY26 was driven by firm overseas demand for formulations, bulk drugs, and vaccines.

Monthly export figures for June increased by a little over 7.1 percent year-on-year to $2.8 billion, compared with $2.6 billion in June of FY26. Shipments in June were also 6.86 percent higher than the $2.63 billion recorded in May, signaling sustained month-on-month momentum at the start of the fiscal year.

Drug formulations and biologicals remained the largest export category for the country, generating $5.98 billion and accounting for 73.85 percent of total pharmaceutical exports. The segment grew 4.14 percent from the year-earlier period.

Bulk drugs and drug intermediates rose 13.84 percent to $1.36 billion. Vaccine exports saw the fastest growth among all categories, climbing 35.68 percent to $0.39 billion, while surgical product exports advanced 11.95 percent to $0.21 billion.

Pharmexcil stated that the broad-based increase reflected sustained demand for affordable generic medicines, stronger procurement from both regulated and emerging markets, and India’s expanding role as a pharmaceutical manufacturing and export hub.
