Imposter Posing as DSP Arrested in Hyderabad for ₹1.20-Crore Fraud

HYDERABAD — The Central Crime Station's Detective Department has arrested an imposter who had been evading authorities since 2021 after cheating victims across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh of more than ₹1.2 crore.

The accused has been identified as Konduru Reddy Venkat Raju, also known as KVP Raju and DSP Raju. Hyderabad police apprehended him at his native place in Rayachoti, located in the Annamayya district of Andhra Pradesh, and subsequently brought him to the Central Crime Station in Hyderabad.

According to police officials, Raju falsely represented himself as a senior police officer to convince victims to put money into non-existent business ventures with promises of high returns. To win their trust, he provided property documents and issued post-dated cheques as security.

When victims later demanded their money back, the accused intimidated and threatened them by claiming to be an "encounter specialist." Investigators noted that Raju was already involved in two criminal cases registered in Andhra Pradesh.

The arrest followed a formal complaint lodged by a Hyderabad resident who was allegedly defrauded of ₹1.20 crore. Based on the complaint, the Economic Offences Wing Team-V of the CCS Detective Department, led by Sub-Inspector G. Anil Kumar and supervised by Assistant Commissioner of Police K. Kiran, tracked down the suspect and took him into custody.
