IMD Issues Yellow Warning For Hyderabad As Asifnagar Records 19.5 mm Rain

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) Hyderabad issued a yellow weather warning for Hyderabad and surrounding districts on Friday and Saturday, forecasting cloudy skies, light to moderate rain, and thundershowers. Significant rainfall was already recorded across the region by Friday evening, with Asifnagar in Hyderabad recording 19.5 mm of rain and Eturnagaram in Mulugu district receiving a heavy downpour of 115.3 mm. The yellow caution was also sounded for the adjacent districts of Medchal-Malkajgiri and Rangareddy.
According to the weather data released by the Telangana Development Planning Society (TGDPS), the rainfall on Friday was scattered but heavy in several pockets of the state. In Hyderabad, key localities such as Madhapur, Gachibowli, Ameerpet, Miyapur, Patancheru, Golconda, BHEL, Nallagandla, and Kondapur witnessed scattered rainfall between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. The rest of the city observed lighter drizzles and mild rain during the evening hours.
The TGDPS data highlighted specific rainfall measurements within Hyderabad recorded up to 8 p.m. on Friday. Behind Asifnagar's peak of 19.5 mm, both Gachibowli and Mehdipatnam recorded 17 mm of rain. Doodhkhana in Begum Bazar registered 16.8 mm, while Langer Houz in Golkonda and Shaikpet both observed 15.8 mm of rainfall.
Outside of the capital city, the rainfall was significantly heavier. Mulugu district’s Eturnagaram recorded the highest overall rainfall in the state with 115.3 mm. Other districts also saw substantial precipitation, with Geesukonda in Warangal recording 74 mm, Paidipally in Warangal recording 63 mm, Hanmakonda recording 61.3 mm, and Dharur in the Jogulamba Gadwal district recording 58.3 mm.
For Saturday, the IMD Hyderabad forecast indicated that the weather pattern would persist. The bureau stated that a few pockets within Telangana would continue to receive light to moderate rain or thundershowers. For the city of Hyderabad specifically, the forecast predicted a cloudy sky, with parts of the city expected to experience light to moderate rain or thundershowers throughout the day.
