ICMR-NIN Campus Hosts 800 School Students for Two-Day SHINE Programme 2026

The National Institute of Nutrition (ICMR-NIN) inaugurated the Science and Health Innovation for Nextgen Explorers (SHINE) Programme 2026 on Tuesday at the ICMR-NIN campus in Hyderabad. The two-day outreach initiative aims to introduce school children to the world of science, nutrition, and public health.

Dr Bharati Kulkarni, Director of NIN, inaugurated the initiative at the institute. Around 800 students from nine schools are participating in the event. Nearly half of the participating students are from government schools serving children from underprivileged communities, giving them an opportunity to visit the national nutrition research institute and experience science through direct interaction, demonstrations, and hands-on activities.

The programme features a range of interactive exhibits and activities designed to make science engaging for young learners. Key attractions include nutrition games, diet surveys, and demonstrations of home-based techniques for the detection of food adulteration.

In addition to the activities at the ICMR-NIN campus in Hyderabad, school children are also participating in SHINE activities at Model Rural Health Research Units (MRHRUs) located in Janampet, Mahbubnagar in Telangana, and Chandragiri in Andhra Pradesh.
