HYDRAA Secures ₹600-Crore Government Land Near Banjara Lake

The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) carried out a major land protection operation on Road No. 13 in Banjara Hills on Thursday, July 16, 2026. The agency successfully secured 3.63 acres of valuable government land abutting Banjara Lake, protecting the property from ongoing encroachment threats.
The secured land, which is estimated to be worth over ₹600 crore, is currently the subject of active litigation. According to official statements from HYDRAA, the vacant property had remained an unrecognised plot within a layout that was prepared during the historic Nizam era.
The intervention by the agency followed multiple complaints from local residents and the Banjara Hills Lake Protection Committee. Concerned citizens had utilized HYDRAA’s Prajavani platform to voice their grievances, reporting that repeated attempts were being made by unidentified elements to encroach upon the valuable government land.
In their appeals to the agency, the local residents and the committee members sought the immediate protection of the land. They also requested that the government-owned site be developed into a public park for the benefit of the local community.
Beyond the threat of illegal occupation, the complainants highlighted the environmental degradation of the site. They stated that the neglected property had turned into a dumping ground, which was directly affecting the ecological health of the adjacent Banjara Lake.
In response to these public complaints, HYDRAA coordinated a joint inspection of the Road No. 13 property. The inspection was conducted alongside officials from other concerned government departments to assess the status of the land.
Following the joint inspection, HYDRAA took decisive action to safeguard the property. The agency fenced the entire 3.63-acre area to prevent any further encroachment attempts while the court case is pending disposal.
Additionally, HYDRAA installed official boards across the property. These boards display the specific details of the active litigation to notify the public of the land's legal status and prevent any unauthorized transactions or activity on the site.
