Hydraa Clears Clogged Drains in Mehdipatnam and Miyapur Ahead of Monsoon

The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (Hydraa), in coordination with local civic bodies, has cleared clogged stormwater drains and sewer lines across Mehdipatnam, Mallepally, Vijayanagar Colony, Miyapur, and Patancheru to prevent waterlogging ahead of the monsoon season. The cleanup operation, which concluded in late June 2026, aimed to restore the free flow of floodwater by removing truckloads of obstructing waste from critical drainage channels.
Disaster Response Force (DRF) teams worked alongside municipal officials from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), and other local civic bodies (CMC and MMC) to target vulnerable choke points. Over a two-day period, teams deployed heavy machinery, including earth movers, to extract massive quantities of discarded household items and utility waste that had choked the drainage system.
Among the debris removed from the city's box drains were cable wires, plastic covers, mattresses, pillows, blankets, sofas, chairs, and various other unusable household items. These obstructions had severely compromised the capacity of the city's stormwater networks.
A key focus of the operation was the Aghapura nala, a critical stormwater drain that passes through Mehdipatnam, Mallepally, and Vijayanagar Colony before merging into the Musi River. The condition of this nala had become alarming prior to the intervention. Near Darussalam, floodwater had completely stopped moving forward at a crucial culvert due to the sheer volume of accumulated waste. DRF teams successfully cleared the blockage, restoring the flow.
Additionally, teams targeted a box drain running along the left side of the road from Miyapur toward Patancheru. Workers discovered and removed a massive, tangled pile of cable wires that had accumulated inside the drain, which had threatened to cause severe waterlogging on the busy route.
According to a press release issued on Sunday, June 28, 2026, the joint initiative between Hydraa and the civic bodies successfully restored the free flow of rainwater across these key locations, preparing Hyderabad's drainage infrastructure for the upcoming heavy rains.
