HYDRAA Begins Demolition of Damaged Five-Storey Building in Kondapur

Demolition work began late Sunday evening on a damaged five-storey building in Anjaiahnagar, Kondapur, a day after an adjacent illegal seven-storey structure collapsed.
Officials from HYDRAA stated that the five-storey building had been constructed illegally on a 50-square-yard plot. The demolition process is expected to take at least two days, as the weakened structure cannot safely be brought down in one go.
The five-storey building had been operating as a hostel accommodating around 70 residents. All occupants were made to vacate on a war footing following the incident due to severe structural safety concerns.
The demolition operation has forced several neighbouring residential buildings to evacuate as a safety precaution. Authorities vacated C Block of Jayadarshini Society, which contains around 25 flats, as well as Blocks C and D of Sterling Whitefield, which house 18 flats each.
The neighbouring seven-storey under-construction building collapsed on Saturday, killing two workers and damaging two adjacent buildings, including the hostel structure currently being razed.
HYDRAA officials noted that the collapse has brought attention to the proliferation of illegal structures built closely together in the area to cater to IT professionals seeking hostel accommodation. Officials observed that in parts of the locality, there was not even a 100-metre gap between illegally constructed buildings.
