HYDRAA Begins ₹28 Crore Restoration Of Pedda Cheruvu In Nacharam

The Hyderabad Disaster Response & Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) on Thursday, July 16, officially commenced a comprehensive restoration and development project at Pedda Cheruvu in Nacharam. HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath inaugurated the initiative for the 108.30-acre lake, which is being executed at an estimated cost of ₹28 crore.

The project is aimed at transforming the large water body into a vibrant recreational space for local residents of all age groups. According to HYDRAA officials, the entire restoration and development work is scheduled to be completed within a period of nine months.

Key features of the development plan include the construction of a strengthened bund and a new walkway around the lake. The surrounding area will also be equipped with seating areas, green parks, children’s play zones, open gyms, and dedicated yoga platforms to encourage outdoor activities.

Addressing reporters during the launch, Commissioner Ranganath announced that the desilting of the lake is already under way. The desilting process will clear the lake bed to a depth of 10 feet. As part of the ongoing restoration efforts, workers are also focused on the systematic removal of plastic waste from the water.

Ranganath explained that the lake restoration works undertaken by HYDRAA are crucial for the local ecosystem. The project is expected to help mitigate seasonal monsoon flooding in the surrounding residential areas while contributing to improved groundwater levels in the region.

Furthermore, the initiative is designed to resolve several long-standing public health and civic issues that have affected the neighborhood. Local residents have long complained of problems arising from sewage, foul odours, and severe mosquito infestation. The Commissioner stated that the comprehensive cleanup and infrastructure development will address these issues, creating a cleaner, healthier, and more pleasant environment for the community.
